What Kinds Of Acne Treatments Are Available At Med Spas?

Blog

If you have acne, you are probably no stranger to various treatment options. Surely you've tried some over-the-counter remedies like salicylic acid washes and benzoyl peroxide cream. Maybe you've even seen a dermatologist for a prescription antibiotic. But what about visiting a med spa? As it turns out, this can be a good option, too. There are a few different treatments that med spas typically offer.

Salicylic Acid Peels

Salicylic acid is a very common acne treatment. It is usually used in low concentrations in the form of astringents and washes. At a med spa, however, you can get a more powerful type of salicylic acid treatment called a peel. A concentrated preparation of salicylic acid, usually with a gel-like consistency, will be applied to your face. The preparation will be left on for about 10 minutes before being rinsed and washed away.

This peel treats acne in a few different ways. It removes dead skin cells that may otherwise clog pores and lead to the formation of blemishes. It also helps kill some of the bacteria within the pores, which is important since bacteria contribute to the formation of acne blemishes. Your skin may be a bit red and irritated for a couple of days after the peel, so you'll need to stay out of the sun and use gentle skincare.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Some med spas have a laser system that can be used to treat your active blemishes. Your practitioner will aim the laser at the blemish or clogged pore. The laser will kill bacteria in the blemish and help encourage the surrounding skin to heal. You won't feel a thing while the laser is working, and while your skin may be slightly irritated afterwards, there are no serious side effects. Laser treatment is a good choice if you want to be able to go right back to work and ordinary life after treatment.

Clay Masks

A clay mask can also be helpful for the treatment of acne. Clay has a tendency to pull moisture out of the surfaces it is applied to. It can therefore pull the extra oils and harmful bacteria out of your pores, which can prevent acne and clogged pores. The clay mask preparations used at med spas tend to contain more powerful, effective ingredients than those sold over-the-counter. Your face may be a little dry after the mask treatment, but a gentle moisturizer can correct that.

If you suffer from acne, visiting a med spa can be a smart management approach.

Choosing A Better Salon

Do you remember the last time you had your hair professionally done? About a year ago, I realized that I needed to have a little help with my look, so I started checking out different spas and salons in the area. I was able to find an amazing place that specialized in hairstyles for men, and so I made an appointment and then headed in. It was really incredible to see how much of a difference they were able to make, and within no time, I felt like I looked a ton better. This blog is all about choosing a better salon to get a personal makeover.
